When it comes to choice art we need to provide mini lessons called "skill builders" to ensure the students are learning valuable techniques that they can apply when creating their artworks throughout the school year. We are focused on opening the Painting Center this week and in order to do so everyone must complete the skill builder to show they understand how to use the art materials respectfully, and intentionally as well. Here is a photo of our organized and labled painting center so the kids know exactly how to clean it up at the end of each class.

Here is the watercolor skill builder we completed. This helps the students gain confidence in using the art material and hopefully inspires some creative approaches to their next masterpiece.

Here is the Liquid Tempera paint skill builder. This is by far the students favorite type of paint to use because of how vibrant and opaque the colors are. It lends itself to a variety of techniques that allow for blending, texture, layering, and value.

Our 1st and K classes have been reading the book "In the City" and have been creating their own cities to color and paint next week.
