DOT DAY WAS THE BEST DAY EVER! That morning I hung up every single students dot day art work all over the bulletin boards in the top floor hallways. It was a pop up art show for 1 day only. It made a big impact as you walked the halls. I greeted each student off the bus and celebrated their outfits with them. Then I made my big speech about what Dot Day means and why we celebrate it over the loud speaker. Here is the blurb.

With my classes we all sang the dot day song together and we talked about what it means to start with a blank page, how it makes us feel and how we could have the courage to create even though we can be scared to do it sometimes.

Our K teacher Mrs. Rosen and her daughter made very cool Leo the Lion Dot Day shirts!

One of our students had a birthday on my favorite day of the year, he knew how lucky he was and we made sure he was celebrated!

I hung up some art that students created years ago - many of the kids who are in 2nd grade now saw some of their K art up there. A big thank you to the Jane Ryan community for helping their kiddos make their shirts and prep for yet another school holiday - but it is so worth it! This event has grown over the years and now is even cross curriculum. The students read the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, they made circle/dot art with me, they learned a new song in music that we all sang together at the assembly as an act of community art and togetherness - have I mentioned it is my favorite day of the year? Until next September...
