This week grades 2-5 worked on finishing, framing, and writing artist statements for their first CHOICE ART projects. I sent home a flyer last week explaining what choice art was to parents/guardians and now you can see what the first rounds of results are. Kids only had access to the drawing center so I could work on building trust surrounding the organization and respect for the art supplies. We also worked on defining a quality work of art and what it means to take the choice part of this process seriously. How they should choose the right sized challenge for themselves and apply their art skills intentionally. It has been amazing to see the creativity burst from their minds and to see their increased enjoyment when they get to make what makes them happy. I love seeing the variety in their choices - we all value different things and its amazing to see everyone's special interests come to life.

K and 1 added woodland critters to their fall backgrounds that they made last week. They picked which animals they wanted to draw, colored and cut them out - a big skill they are working on. Many cut tails or heads off their critters but problem solved during the gluing phase where they learned it could easily be repaired. They are so cute!
